The Studios Family Photographer – Nikka Ampil – talks cameras for kids.

When choosing cameras for kids, there are a couple of things you need to consider. First, if your kids are still really small any camera you buy needs to be tough and durable, able to withstand being dropped or thrown around regularly! You should get a camera that ticks all the boxes for durability, quality pics or video and looks like a ‘grown up’ camera.

Waterproof cameras are great too, they have good features and being waterproof means no panic near the pool. If the camera also has good quality images, the ability to take video and edit pictures on the camera – that’s a sure win. There are also Fun Cam options for outdoor playing and action video.

As your children grow older you can start to take their level of interest into consideration. If they express a keen interest in photography then it may be worth encouraging their interest by getting them a decent quality camera.

And of course as they become teenagers they will no doubt discover the fun of shooting the action with a Go Pro – great for capturing sports and fast moving fun!
